Judge Keshe Chow has chosen the three co-winners for this contest!
- Hollow Whispers of the Wind by Florence Chien: From the first word, Hollow Whispers of the Wind captivated me with its richly layered prose, imagery, and immersive setting. But what truly elevates it is the incredible depth of character the author manages to pack into a such a short excerpt. With the ideal balance of action and introspection, a-Ling is a fascinating protagonist who feels utterly relatable.
- Escape from Krow by Robyn Dabney: Nothing beats a good fantasy heist book, and Escape from Krow absolutely delivers. This novel excerpt starts out with a bang and keeps up a relentless pace that had me breathless by the end. It wasn’t only the action, however, that packs a punch. The prose here is voicey, witty, and cinematic, making this an incredibly immersive read.
- The Guild of Lady Protectors by Matt Tighe: This novel excerpt is so much fun, with an intriguing premise, fascinating protagonist, and beautifully rendered prose. I completely fell in love with the subtle yet irreverent humor, the historical-esque setting, the captivating cast of characters—but especially with our kickass main character, Sania, whose antics I’m already keen to read more of.
